The following general resources are available to assist you in implementing FEC at your facility. Specific resources are also available to assist you in each electronics life-cycle phase: acquisition and procurement; operation and maintenance; and end-of-life management.

Federal Legislation and Executive Orders Relevant to the FEC (PDF, 64 KB)
This document lists federal regulations and Executive Orders that are applicable to electronics stewardship. This resource also includes best management practices that the FEC promotes, and which may assist federal agencies and facilities in meeting the listed requirements.

The Office of the Federal Environmental Executive developed this fact sheet to briefly outline the electronics stewardship requirements in Executive Order 13423.

Environmental Benefits Calculator
The Electronics Environmental Benefits Calculator was developed to assist organizations in estimating the environmental benefits of greening their purchase, use and disposal of electronics.

These documents provide background information and step-by-step instructions for using data from the FY2008 and FY2007 Annual Reporting Forms to calculate environmental benefits using the Electronics Environmental Benefits Calculator (EEBC).

An Environmental Management System (EMS) is a set of processes and practices that enable an organization to reduce its environmental impacts and increase its operating efficiency. FEC resources are available to help Federal facilities achieve environmental improvements from better management of electronic equipment throughout its life cycle.

This document provides answers to frequently asked questions about the connection between your EMS and the FEC. The FEC is an electronics management program that can exist within the structure of your EMS to improve your facility's environmental performance.

Integrating Electronics Stewardship Into Your EMS (PDF, 73 KB)
This document highlights how electronics stewardship can be incorporated into an EMS, utilizing the framework of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Standard 14001:2004(E).

This fact sheet provides answers to frequently asked questions from Facility Partners interested in mentoring other federal organizations. Mentoring is a requirement for receiving the FEC Gold level award.

DEA Southeast Laboratory's FEC Triangle (PDF, 146 KB)
The U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency Southeast Laboratory applied for the FEC Gold Award in 2007. The EMS Laboratory team developed the FEC Triangle to organize the award process, and put together this fact sheet to share this resource with other FEC Partners.

DEA EPIC's FEC Plan-Do-Check-Act Wheel (PDF, 40 KB)
The U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency El Paso Intelligence Center (EPIC) developed a Deming Wheel, applying the Plan-Do-Check-Act methodology to FEC participation. EPIC's EMS team put together this fact sheet to share this resource with other FEC Partners.

Promotional Posters
These posters are available for Partners to customize and post to educate employees about powering down computers at the end of each day, double-sided copying and printing, and toner and ink cartridge recycling.

Collaboration

The Listserve includes all Partners participating in FEC, as well as the FEC steering committee, and FEC champions. This tool can be used to network with other Partners, ask questions, and share your experience in electronics stewardship. Examples of topics previously discussed on the Listserve include:

  • Announcements of upcoming events, such as conferences focused on electronics issues, FEC partner phone calls, Web casts, and more
  • New resources, including those on this Web site and others such as fedcenter.gov
  • Tips, on topics such as how to save money while reducing your agency's environmental footprint.

Communication

FEC utilizes partner calls to inform Partners about program requirements, tools, and resources. The Presentations page contains the electronic files for past partner call presentations.

FEC encourages responsible electronics life-cycle management and recognizes the importance of other web-based resources. The list of external Web Links provides direct access to websites that FEC believes may be of use to its Partners.
