June 17, 2008: Report on Benefits of EPEAT Product Sales in 2007
The Green Electronics Council (GEC) released a report enumerating the environmental benefits from the sale of over 109 million EPEAT registered products in 2007. Learn more in GEC's press release (PDF, 58 KB) and the full text of the report (PDF, 3.9 MB).
June 1, 2008: GEC Releases Results of Round Two EPEAT Verification Process
The Green Electronics Council (GEC) released a report summarizing the outcomes of the second round of verification of products on the EPEAT Registry. EPEAT's Product Verification Web page provides additional information including the Verification Plan and Results Report.
April 29, 2008: OFEE Announces 2008 White House Closing the Circle Award Winners
The Office of the Federal Environmental Executive announced the recipients of the 2008 White House Closing the Circle (CTC) Awards in a press release (PDF, 61 KB). This annual program is required by Executive Order 13423 and recognizes outstanding Federal environmental stewardship. The Department of Homeland Security, Transportation Security Administration is the 2008 Civilian winner for Electronics Stewardship. The U.S. Postal Service won an Honorable Mention for Electronics Stewardship.
April 22, 2008: OFEE Releases Report to the President on Federal
Environmental and Energy Management
The Office of the Federal Environmental Executive released "Leading By Example: Federal Government Environmental and Energy Efficiency Management for 2004-2006" (PDF, 2 MB) on Earth Day 2008. This biennial report highlights Federal agency accomplishments in environmental, energy and transportation management, in accordance with Executive Order 13423. The report includes a section on Electronics Stewardship which highlights the progress and accomplishments of the FEC and other federal electronics stewardship activities.
April 22, 2008: OFEE and EPA Announce 2008 FEC Award Recipients
The Office of the Federal Environmental Executive and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced the 2008 FEC award recipients, including two Gold Level award recipients, ten Silver Level award recipients and eighteen Bronze Level award recipients. The FEC also announced awards for the six Federal agencies for their assistance with the transition to the new FEC partnership structure in 2007, as well as all of the individuals that acted as FEC Champions during 2007. April 10, 2008: FEC Highlighted in Resource Conservation Challenge Update
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency highlighted the FEC, EPEAT, and the Plug-In To eCycling programs in the March 2008 Resource Conservation Challenge Update (PDF, 3.3 MB). The Update includes information about other green electronics initiatives, and is available at the Resource Conservation Challenge Web site.
April 7, 2008: FEC Releases 2007 Accomplishments Summary
The FEC has released its 2007 summary of program accomplishments (PDF, 66 KB), which includes a qualitative assessment of program activities and a quantitative summary of program accomplishments, based on partner reports for FY2007.
January 22, 2008: All EPEAT Registered Products Are Now ENERGY STAR 4.0
Qualified
The grace period for EPEAT-registered products to meet ENERGY STAR 4.0 requirements has ended. On January 21, 2008 all products that did not meet ENERGY STAR 4.0 were removed from the EPEAT Registry. As of January 22, 2008, all electronic products listed in the EPEAT Registry are ENERGY STAR 4.0 qualified. December 27, 2007: OFEE Showcases FEC Partners' Activities
The Fall 2007 issue of "Closing the Circle News" (PDF, 934 KB) is available on the Office of the Federal Environmental Executive's Web site. This issue focuses on electronics stewardship and highlights accomplishments by FEC Partners.
December 26, 2007: EPEAT FAR Case Published
The Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) issuing agencies published an interim rule that amended the FAR to require use of the Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT) when acquiring personal computer products. The interim final rule goes into effect immediately, although comments are being accepted by the FAR Councils through February 25, 2008. The Federal Registrar notice (PDF, 78 KB) provides the interim rule and instructions for submitting comments.
November 23, 2007: ENERGY STAR and FEMP FAR Case Published
The Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) issuing agencies published a final rule that amended the FAR to address implementation of Section 104 of the Energy Policy Act of 2005. This amendment requires all federal acquisitions of energy consuming-products and all contracts for energy-consuming products require ENERGY STAR or Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP) designated products. The Federal Registrar notice (PDF, 95 KB) includes the final rule and comments.
November 15, 2007: OFEE Announces 2007 - 2008 ERRC
The Office of the Federal Environmental Executive issued a press release (PDF, 19 KB) announcing the launch of the 2007 - 2008 Electronics Reuse and Recycling Campaign (ERRC). Registration, rules, and reuse/recycling assistance are all available on the 2007-2008 ERRC Web site.
October 1, 2007: State Electronics Challenge - Northeast Pilot Invites New Partners
The Northeast Recycling Council, Inc. (NERC), with funding from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, has launched the State Electronics Challenge (SEC) - Northeast Pilot, modeled after the Federal Electronics Challenge (FEC). The SEC pilot is open to state, regional, and local governments, including schools and other public entities, that want to improve their electronic stewardship and are located in the Northeast (Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Vermont).
