January 27, 2010: Winners of the 2008-2009 Electronics Reuse and Recycling Campaign Announced
During the Electronics Reuse and Recycling Campaign (ERRC), federal agencies competed to reuse and recycle the most electronic equipment. Eight winners emerged from a total of 137 facilities and eight teams from six Federal agencies. The participating facilities and teams successfully reused and recycled more than 15.8 million pounds of electronics. The Office of the Federal Environmental Executive issued a press release (PDF, 47 KB).
October 5, 2009 - President Obama Issues New Executive Order for Federal Sustainability
President Barack Obama signed Executive Order 13514, "Federal Leadership in Environmental, Energy, and Economic Performance" on October 5. The E.O. sets goals in the areas of greenhouse gas emissions reductions; energy efficiency; water conservation; waste reduction; supporting sustainable communities; electronics stewardship; and federal environmentally preferable purchasing. September 30, 2009: GEC Releases Report on Benefits of EPEAT Product Sales in 2008

September 3, 2009: Revised ENERGY STAR Specification for Televisions
EPA has finalized a revision of the product specification for televisions. The effective date for the Version 4.0 requirements in this specification is May 1, 2010. The effective date for the Version 5.0 requirements is May 1, 2012. More information about the new specification is available on the ENERGY STAR Television Specification web site.
August 10, 2009: Green Electronics Council Announces Major International Expansion of EPEAT
The Green Electronics Council (GEC) has announced the release of the Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT) International Registry. Manufacturers are now able to register products in 40 different countries around the world. More information is available in GEC's press release (PDF, 295 KB).
July 27, 2009: ANAB Offers Accreditation for Responsible Recycling (R2) Certification Program
ANAB, the National Accreditation Board for the US, announced last week in a press release (PDF, 46 KB) that they have finalized the accreditation rule for the R2 practices. This means certifying bodies are now able to become accredited to R2. Once certifying bodies are accredited, they will be able to certify electronics recyclers to R2.
May 15, 2009: New ENERGY STAR Specification for Computer Servers
EPA has finalized a new product specification for computer servers, Version 1.0. The Tier 1 Specification is effective May 15, 2009. The new specification covers specifically defined computer servers. More information about the new specification is available on the ENERGY STAR Computer Server Specification Web site.
May 5, 2009: OFEE and EPA Announce 2009 FEC Award Recipients
The Office of the Federal Environmental Executive and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced the 2009 FEC award recipients, including eight Gold Level award recipients, thirteen Silver Level award recipients and sixteen Bronze Level award recipients. The FEC also announced awards for all of the individuals that acted as FEC Champions during 2008. April 30, 2009: OFEE Announces 2009 White House Closing the Circle Award Winners
The Office of the Federal Environmental Executive announced the recipients of the 2009 White House Closing the Circle (CTC) Awards in a press release (PDF, 67 KB). This annual program recognizes outstanding Federal environmental stewardship. The Electronics Stewardship award winners are FEC partners. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Region 8 is the 2009 Civilian winner for Electronics Stewardship. The U.S. Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service, Northern Plains Agricultural Research Laboratory won an Honorable Mention for Electronics Stewardship.
April 1, 2009: The 2008-2009 Electronics Reuse and Recycling Campaign Begins
The Office of the Federal Environmental Executive launched the 4th annual Electronics Reuse and Recycling Campaign (ERRC) on Wednesday, April 1, 2009, on the FedCenter website, http://www.fedcenter.gov/errc. Federal agencies will be allowed to report weights of eligible reuse and recycling activities from October 1, 2008, through September 30, 2009.
March 17, 2009: FEC Releases 2008 Accomplishments Summary
The FEC has released its 2008 summary of program accomplishments (PDF, 90 KB), which includes a qualitative assessment of program activities and a quantitative summary of program accomplishments, based on partner reports for FY2008.
March 5, 2009: EPA Releases Version 2.0 of the Electronics Environmental Benefits Calculator
The Electronics Environmental Benefits Calculator (EEBC) was developed to assist organizations in estimating the environmental benefits of greening their purchase, use and disposal of electronics. EPA, working with Abt Associates, Inc., Dillon Environmental Associates and the University of Tennessee Center for Clean Products and Clean Technologies, has revised the EEBC and is releasing version 2.0. The new version may be downloaded from the FEC Web site.
February 6, 2009: GEC Releases Results of EPEAT Verification Round Three
The Green Electronics Council (GEC) released a report summarizing the outcomes of the third round of verification of subscriber registrations on the EPEAT Product Registry. EPEAT's Product Verification Web page provides additional information including the complete Verification Plan and Outcomes Report.
January 15, 2009: Final EPEAT FAR Rule Published
A final rule which requires federal agencies to procure EPEAT registered products was published in the Federal Register (PDF, 53 KB). This new requirement is now part of the Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR). The FAR now states in part 23.705: "As required by E.O. 13423, agencies must ensure that they meet at least 95 percent of their annual acquisition requirement for electronic products with Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT)-registered electronic products, unless there is no EPEAT standard for such products. This policy applies to contracts performed in the United States, unless otherwise provided by agency procedures."
